What crimes still allow me to apply to become a US Citizen?

US citizens are some of the most privileged in the world. They enjoy many freedoms and benefits that other citizens do not. There are some crimes, however, that still allow you to apply to become a US citizen.

  • Crimes involving moral turpitude 
  • A sentence of five years or more.
  • Possession of a controlled substance without a prescription
  • Incarceration for 180 days

  • Gambling offenses
  • Habitual drunkard
  • Two or more convictions for driving under the influence
  • Failure to support dependents
  • Adultery

Although an offense may not fall within a permanent or conditional bar to good moral character, it may still affect an applicant’s ability to establish good moral character.
