Arizona county sheriffs have stated that they will not uphold the immigration measure if it is approved.

In November’s election, there will be a proposal to criminalize crossing into the US without authorization for immigrants. Sheriffs in four Arizona counties along the Mexican border have cautioned that enforcing a new state crime for migrants entering the US unofficially may pose challenges if voters approve the measure in November. Critiques vary from the inability to enforce the law due to budget constraints to claims of racism, receiving backlash from both Democrats and Republicans. To enforce the contentious measure allowing law enforcement to apprehend and charge suspected offenders, the state would rely heavily on the resources of counties along the 370-mile Arizona-Mexico border. Proposal 314 may lead to extra expenses in legal processes, such as a rise in the need for interpreter services.
