Biden advancing his idea to strengthen asylum regulations at the border between the United States and Mexico

According to two U.S. officials who spoke with CBS News, President Biden’s administration is preparing to release a regulation soon that will solidify the broad asylum restrictions that were implemented at the southern border over the summer. These changes would significantly reduce the likelihood that the stringent regulations would be relaxed anytime soon. A proclamation banning entrance for most illegal migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border was issued by Mr. Biden in June. His instruction was carried out by the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice, which promulgated a regulation that effectively stopped asylum proceedings in between official border entry locations. Following the strict procedures, there was a four-year drop in illicit border crossings. The proposed modifications would alter the point at which the partial asylum restriction would be deactivated, making it far more difficult for authorities to lift it. According to the existing ruling, the measure would expire if there were less than 1,500 unlawful border crossings on a weekly average. But under the revised plan, the limits on asylum would only end if the seven-day average falls below 1,500 for a continuous 28-day period. It would also factor in additional migrants while calculating the deactivation trigger. Presently, unaccompanied minors who are not Mexican nationals are not permitted to pass. All unaccompanied minors would be included in the new figures.
