State Department H-1B Visa Renewal Pilot Will Not Include Dependents

State Department pilot program to renew H-1B visas in the United States will not include the dependents of H-1B professionals. Starting in January, the State Department will allow 20,000 H-1B visa holders to renew their visas in the United States as part of a pilot program. State Department officials say a Federal Register notice in December will provide details on pilot eligibility.

Federal judge to prohibit separating migrant families at US border for 8 years

U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw approved a court settlement in October between the Justice Department and families represented by the American Civil Liberties Union. Under proposed settlement “zero-tolerance” policy which was used under the Trump administration separated more than 5,000 children from parents who were arrested for illegally entering the country would be prohibited until December 2031.

Democrats Clash Over Move to Add Asylum Changes to War Funding Bill

A bipartisan group of senators has agreed that a spending package for Israel and Ukraine should include a measure making it more difficult to be granted asylum in the United States. It is not clear whether the idea will survive round of negotiations to finalize the national security spending measure, which could reach the Senate floor as soon as next week.

H-1B Worker Domestic Visa Renewal Pilot to Start in January

A limited number of H-1B specialty occupation workers will be able to renew their visas in the US as soon as January. The Department of State is working to extend interview waivers for certain temporary visas and offer a digital visa for travel to the US. The rollout of the H-1B domestic visa renewal pilot will be limited to just 20,000 participants at first.
