Judge Blocks Texas-Style Immigration Law in Idaho
A judge has issued an interim injunction against HB 83. The law’s enforcement has been temporarily halted. The Texas-style immigration enforcement bill, House Bill 83, was signed into law by Governor Brad Little. Unlawful admission into the state would be a misdemeanor under House Bill 83. A person may be deported by federal authorities if they are found guilty of a criminal, such as theft, or if they are the subject of an investigation. Rep. Bruce Skaug of Nampa, the bill’s sponsor, stated that the state would help with the federal deportation procedure. To prevent the implementation of House Bill 83, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Idaho sued the state.
