La intervenci\u00f3n del tribunal se produjo despu\u00e9s de que el Tribunal de Apelaciones del Quinto Circuito de EE.UU. dijera el s\u00e1bado que permitir\u00eda que la ley entrara en vigor mientras el caso en su contra prosegu\u00eda en los tribunales, anulando un fallo de un tribunal inferior que hab\u00eda detenido la aplicaci\u00f3n de la ley. El Tribunal Supremo no anul\u00f3 la decisi\u00f3n del tribunal de apelaciones. En cambio, el juez Samuel Alito dijo en una breve orden que el tribunal retrasaba la fecha en que la ley podr\u00eda entrar en vigor hasta las 17.00 horas del 13 de marzo. El gobierno federal hab\u00eda solicitado al alto tribunal que anulara el fallo del tribunal de circuito y bloqueara la ley.
