Both he and the officer who was struck were transported for treatment following the incident.<br \/>ICE said Villegas-Gonzalez had a history of reckless driving and was in the U.S. illegally. When officers attempted to arrest him, he refused commands and accelerated toward them, prompting the officer to open fire.<\/p><p><br \/>The shooting comes amid the Trump administration\u2019s immigration crackdown, including \u201cOperation Midway Blitz,\u201dtargeting Chicago\u2019s sanctuary city policies. Advocates, however, argue the incident highlights the dangers of militarized immigration enforcement and called for accountability.<\/p><p><br \/>Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker demanded transparency, while local leaders and immigrant rights groups described the shooting as a tragedy.
