The federal government intends to start processing first applications for DACA, the Obama-era program that provides work permits and deportation protection to immigrants brought to the country as youngsters, for the first time in four years. The action would restore DACA to first-time applicants in all states but Texas, according to a Justice Department plan released Monday. The request was submitted in reaction to a case that is still pending in the Brownsville, Texas, U.S. district court. Texas residents who now have DACA might still be protected from deportation, but they would no longer be eligible for employment authorization, the lawsuit stated.<\/div>
