TPS Renewed for 1M by Biden
On Friday, the Biden administration announced an extension of temporary humanitarian protections for close to 1 million immigrants residing in the United States, just days before a potential deportation initiative by the incoming Trump administration. The action protects Venezuelans, Ukrainians, Salvadorans, and Sudanese from potential deportation for a period of 18 months. The Department of Homeland Security stated that immigrants from Venezuela, El Salvador, Ukraine, and Sudan who hold a type of provisional residency called temporary protected status, or TPS, can renew their work permits for 18 months, which is the maximum permitted by law.
