Judge Blocks Trump Policy on Church Arrests

On Monday, a federal judge prohibited immigration officers from carrying out enforcement actions in Quaker and a few other religious organizations’ places of worship.  According to U.S. District Judge Theodore Chang, the Trump administration policy should be delayed while a lawsuit against it is pending because it may infringe upon their right to freedom of religion.  The plaintiffs, which also include a Sikh temple in California and a network of Baptist churches in Georgia, are the only parties covered by the preliminary order issued by the Maryland-based judge. They filed a lawsuit after the Trump administration overturned Department of Homeland Security regulations that restricted the locations of migrant arrests in an effort to fulfill campaign pledges to carry out mass deportations.
