DOJ Sues Boston on Immigration

Boston, Mayor Michelle Wu, and the Boston Police Department were sued by the Trump administration, which claimed that the city’s policy of solely assisting immigration enforcement in criminal cases was illegal under federal law. 

The lawsuit, which was submitted Thursday to a federal court in Boston, targets the city’s Trust Act, a law passed in 2014 that stated Boston Police would not comply with requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement to hold anyone until they are charged with a crime. Bondi has filed lawsuits over immigration policies in several major cities besides Boston.  Due to its own restrictions, Los Angeles and New York have both been brought to court.
