State's petition to reinstate Iowa's immigration statute is heard by a federal judge

Iowa’s immigration law is currently being considered by a federal court of appeals to determine whether it should go into force or be temporarily stopped. The new unlawful re-entry statute in Iowa is still provisional, pending a federal judge’s interim block. The state is requesting that an appeals court reverse the ruling so that local law enforcement can carry out the statute.According to Iowa’s immigration legislation, it is illegal for someone who has already been denied admission into the US or deported to remain in the state. The state argues that federal regulations and Iowa law may coexist.
