Judge Blocks Deportation Cuts
A federal judge has prevented the Trump administration from drastically reducing a special immigration status that permits 600,000 Venezuelans to work lawfully in the United States and shields them from deportation.
On April 7, the administration attempted to revoke the legal protections, known as “temporary protected status,” for 350,000 Venezuelan citizens. This move might enable the government to deport a large number of individuals to a nation that is experiencing a humanitarian crisis. Additionally, for another 250,000 Venezuelans, the government seeks to expedite the expiration of the so-called TPS protections. Biden-era extensions of those safeguards, however, must continue for the time being, according to a Monday ruling by U.S. District Judge Edward Chen.
