Biden restarts immigration program for 4 countries with more vetting for sponsors

In response to fraud concerns, the Biden administration is resuming an immigration program that permits individuals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to enter the country. As part of this scheme, their U.S.-based financial sponsors will undergo “additional vetting.” Although the program was put on hold earlier this month as the Department of Homeland Security looked into the issues, an internal examination revealed that there had not been any widespread fraud among sponsors. As part of the program, the United States grants work permission to up to 30,000 individuals from each of the four nations each month for a period of two years. In order to be eligible, migrants must not enter at the southern border but rather have a financial sponsor in the United States who attests on their behalf and travel into an American airport on their own dime. Homeland Security conducts background checks on both the migrants wishing to enter the country and the sponsors.
