Feds, Florida Police in First Sting Deportations
In the first coordinated immigration enforcement operation with state police since the Trump administration took office, federal authorities began a massive operation in Florida this week to locate and apprehend about 800 undocumented immigrants. The program is a multi-county immigration enforcement partnership between public safety agencies and the Trump administration in Florida, where approximately one-fifth of the population is foreign-born. The cooperative approach to immigration enforcement is a preview of the kind of policing collaborations that may soon begin to take shape in Florida as Governor Ron DeSantis encourages local and state law enforcement agencies to join Trump’s efforts, even though federal authorities are spearheading the effort.
