Trump’s Immigration Crackdown
U.S. President Donald Trump is getting ready for a more aggressive immigration crackdown in 2026 with billions in extra funds, including by raiding more businesses. Trump has already sent a large number of immigration officers into major American cities, where they fought with locals while sweeping through neighborhoods.
Although federal authorities carried out a few high-profile company raids this year, they mostly refrained from targeting factories, farms, and other economically significant establishments that are known to use undocumented workers. After the Republican-controlled Congress approved a hefty spending package in July, ICE and Border Patrol would receive an additional $170 billion in funding until September 2029, a significant increase above their current yearly budgets of around $19 billion.
In order to find those without legal status, administration officials said they want to recruit thousands more agents, construct additional detention facilities, pick up more immigrants from local jails, and collaborate with outside businesses. In spite of mounting indications of political reaction ahead of the upcoming midterm elections, the deportation plans have been increased.
Before he began crackdowns in numerous major American cities in March, Trump’s overall support rating on immigration policy was 50%; by mid-December, it had dropped to 41%. The U.S. economy and Republican-leaning company owners may be impacted by the administration’s intended concentration on job sites in the upcoming year, which might result in many more arrests.
