New Natick Rule: Safeguarding Immigrants
Natick has become the newest Massachusetts town to enact its own immigration policies. On Wednesday night, the Natick Select Board unanimously passed a revised Immigration Documentation policy that forbids town employees from acting as immigration officers. The policy stated that “no municipal department possesses the legal power to implement immigration laws or request immigration documentation or status unless mandated by state or federal law.” It also stops employees from asking about or gathering information regarding an individual’s citizenship or immigration status. The policy provides exceptions for judicial warrants, subpoenas, and detainers.
