Trump Bans Travel from 12 Nations

Citing security concerns, President Donald Trump issued a proclamation Wednesday night banning travel to the US from a number of nations. Afghanistan, Myanmar, also known as Burma, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen are among the 12 nations whose citizens will be completely prohibited from entering the country. People from seven nations—Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela—will be subject to partial restrictions. For lawful permanent residents, current visa holders, specific visa categories, and people whose admission benefits US national interests, the proclamation contains exclusions. In a video released on Wednesday, Trump stated that when “threats emerge around the world,” more nations may be added to the travel ban. The White House said the proclamation will go into effect on June 9 at 12:01 a.m.
