Trump Cuts Haitian TPS Extension
Secretary Kristi L. Noem of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said Thursday that hundreds of thousands of Haitian migrants may be subject to deportation in August as the agency is reducing a temporary protected status extension for the migrants that was granted during the Biden administration. Trump has previously attempted to remove Haitians’ temporary humanitarian protections. He attempted to remove Haitians’ temporary status in 2017. Eventually, he was prevented from removing the status of grantees from Sudan, Haiti, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. It is anticipated that the most recent ruling regarding TPS for Haitians will be contested in court.
