Trump Admin Deports Immigrants Despite Court Order
Even as a federal judge temporarily blocked the deportations using an 18th-century wartime decree targeting Venezuelan gang members, officials announced Sunday that the Trump administration had moved hundreds of immigrants to El Salvador. When the decision was made, flights were in the air. Although U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg temporarily halted the deportations on Saturday, attorneys informed him that two flights carrying immigrants were already in the air, one bound for Honduras and the other for El Salvador. It appears that the planes were not turned around despite Boasberg’s verbal instructions, and he omitted the instruction from his written order. The deported immigrants have not been identified by the Trump administration, nor has it offered any proof that they are actually Tren de Aragua members or that they committed any crimes while in the US.
