Groundbreaking announcement expected today - Parole in Place for spouses
Get ready for a groundbreaking announcement tomorrow from the President! In a historic move, the President’s executive action will offer much-needed protection and opportunities for undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens. These spouses will soon be shielded from deportation, granted work authorization, and have an easier path to permanent resident status!
But that’s not all! This action is likely expected to help others who do not have a US citizen spouse. For example, the executive action will also make it easier for some undocumented migrants brought to the U.S. as children, affectionately known as “Dreamers,” to receive work visas. According to sources briefed by the White House and reported by PBS journalist Laura Barron-Lopez, Dreamers who have earned a degree from a U.S. college or university and have received a high-skilled job offer will qualify!
This thrilling announcement will take place at a special White House event celebrating the 12th anniversary of an Obama-era action that protected undocumented youth from deportation. Undocumented spouses who have lived in the U.S. continuously for at least 10 years and are legally married as of June 17 will qualify for these benefits. Other eligibility requirements will apply, and each case will be evaluated individually.
For those who qualify, the benefits are enormous! They will have approximately three years to apply for permanent residency, and during this time, they can remain in the U.S. with a three-year work permit.
This executive action is set to be the most significant relief program for undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. since President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in 2012. This is a monumental step forward for countless families and Dreamers!
The announcement is expected to happen at 2:45 Eastern time at the White House in Washington DC. Source: https://rollcall.com/factbase/biden/topic/calendar/
After the announcement, expect that managing attorney John Ting will be going live on youtube, facebook, and tiktok to share his interpretation of the executive action.
