Chicago Judge Slams ICE Over Raid
According to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Cummings, ICE violated the Castanon Nava settlement agreement by arresting 22 persons without a warrant at the beginning of the year. A federal court in Chicago contended on Tuesday that the immigration raid on the South Shore last week disproved Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s previous argument that halting individuals based on their ethnicity, language, and other characteristics would merely result in “brief” interactions with the federal government. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Cummings’s latest remarks were included in a footnote to a 52-page decision in a federal court in Chicago. It prolonged prohibitions on warrantless arrests by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Illinois and neighboring states until February 2026.
