Border Czar: Worksite Raids to Continue

The Trump administration will continue to carry out immigration raids at workplaces, including farms and hotels, according to White House “border czar” Tom Homan, who stated Thursday that criminals will be given priority. After the Department of Homeland Security announced this week that it was reversing recent guidance that called for a freeze on operations at worksites, he spoke to reporters to explain U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s approach at such locations. According to an internal policy memo sent by a senior ICE official and obtained by NBC News, DHS’ Homeland Security Investigations team suspended immigration enforcement actions last week at establishments associated with the agriculture sector, such as restaurants and hotels, as well as fisheries and meatpacking plants.  A spokesperson for DHS, Tricia Mclaughlin, stated on Tuesday that “There will be no safe spaces for industries who harbor violent criminals or purposely try to undermine ICE’s efforts.”
