Charlotte Faces New ICE Crackdown
According to a local county sheriff’s office, federal agents are scheduled to come in Charlotte as early as this weekend as part of the Trump administration’s ongoing immigration crackdown. The Mecklenburg County sheriff’s office reported on Thursday that Garry L. McFadden, the sheriff, received a call this week from two unidentified federal officials informing him that U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents would be arriving in the Charlotte region on Saturday or early next week.
Charlotte is part of Mecklenburg County. The Mecklenburg County sheriff’s office declared it will not participate in any Immigration and Customs Enforcement or CBP crackdowns, despite the fact that the agents’ activities have not been disclosed. Regarding the North Carolina operation, a Homeland Security representative declined to comment.
