San Francisco Braces for ICE

 The Trump administration’s strategies, according to Mayor Daniel Lurie, are intended to incite “backlash, chaos, and violence” in American communities. 

Ahead of an expected increase in federal immigration enforcement in San Francisco, California officials declared emergency measures and issued a warning that federal officers might be arrested for violating state law. 

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie (D) announced in a live video address on Wednesday that he had signed an executive directive to make sure local police follow sanctuary city policies that forbid them from aiding in civil immigration and respect the right to free speech of citizens who oppose the actions of the Trump administration. 

More than 100 federal agents, including some from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, will start arriving Thursday at Coast Guard Base Alameda, which is close to San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. 

This is seen as a precursor to the potential deployment of National Guard troops in the city. Following significant operations in other Democratic-led cities, such as Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Boston, and Chicago, President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem have pledged in recent weeks to make San Francisco the next target in the administration’s immigration crackdown.
