Trump pide al Tribunal que acabe con el estatus de 500.000 inmigrantes

In order to terminate a Biden-era program that permitted over 500,000 immigrants to enter and remain in the United States lawfully for “humanitarian” reasons, the Trump administration is requesting permission from the Supreme Court.  In an emergency appeal filed Thursday, Solicitor General John Sauer aims to overturn a lower court ruling that prevents the administration from terminating the “parole” program for citizens of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. 

According to Sauer, a federal court in Boston made a mistake last month when she decided that immigrants in the program had the right to a case-by-case assessment prior to the revocation of their legal status in the United States.  Obama-appointed U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani temporarily halted Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s March order, which aimed to terminate the legal status for all 532,000 individuals enrolled under the program in a matter of weeks. The high court’s temporary halt of Talwani’s decision is the only explicit request made by the Trump administration in the appeal.  While the case is still pending in the lower courts, the government would be able to end the parole program and even remove the immigrants’ legal status.
