The IRS reaches an agreement to exchange tax information with immigration officials.

The Internal Revenue Service has come to an arrangement with immigration officials to exchange tax details concerning certain immigrants without legal status, signifying a significant shift in the use of tax records. The memorandum of understanding between the IRS and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was signed on Monday and revealed to the public the same day in a legal document. It remains uncertain when the two agencies will start sharing information. According to the agreement, ICE agents are permitted to request information from the IRS regarding immigrants with final removal orders or those who are being criminally investigated, including cases involving the offense of not departing the country within 90 days. Numerous sections of the 15-page document are concealed, making it challenging to discern precisely what the IRS has consented to disclose. The framework consists of multiple pages outlining the rules and regulations for how ICE officers should manage the information they obtain.
